Well, the winter holidays are over again for another year. I always look forward to this
break... it gets cold at just the right kind of nice hereabouts. It's the best time of year to go
to the beach (in my very biased opinion) and we try to escape up to the mountains too for
bush walks and evenings in front of the fire :)

I managed to slip in some painting time and crochet time, just experimenting with different

And I found some beautiful Australia native flora to sketch some day... hopefully soon :)

We had some beautiful crystal clear days up at the mountains too... soaking in this amazing
view again.

Hope you've had a good break too?
Back to work time now... I have some new pieces I'll be listing soon so stayed tuned :)

Gathering... Creating

Recently I went to the Gather :: Create workshop organised by Ellie at Petalplum and Leah
from Sang the Bird. What a buzzing day of fabulous creativity!

The morning session was entitled Unfurl by Alex Falkiner where we learned how to make
rope from fabric scraps.

What an incredible process this is! So simple and yet with such possibilities for
experimentation and application. My example isn't that amazing, but there were some
fabulous pieces created on the day below :)

The afternoon session, Poetic Collage, was held by Karina Sharpe. Here we were
encouraged to combine disparate images to tell a story. My addition to this amazingly
talented group was a bit so-so as well, but I was determined not to get stuck on some kind
of perfectionist loop and to just let myself experiment... if that makes sense ;)

This is my piece where I was thinking about dementia...

So good to learn new methods and process... clearing the mind and opening it to new things
at the same time :) Thanks so much to everyone involved. x

Oh! Embroidered 3 finished :)

Oh number 3, you were a lot of work...
I wanted you to have the density of a tapestry, but of a different feel...

silken papery threads woven into a paper cousin; fibre held together by fibre.

I dreamed of how you would turn out with each stitch...

I wanted you to be a smooth, even texture that pops out from its surface like a sculpture
... and now you're finished!

Oh! Embroidered 3 is in my big cartel shop :)

Stitchery in progress

My day job has been taking most of my time lately so it's been "slowly slowly" with the
progress on my new piece... grabbing a minute here and a minute there when I can.

I wanted to achieve more of a tapestry look this time... heavier but still with bare peeks
of canvas showing through to throw the design into relief :)

As always, when I'm getting close to the finishing post, I hesitate more and more over each
stitch, not wanting to go too far... and spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the back
of the work ;)

Hope you're having a good week :)

Workroom update

I've been a bit quiet here... but I have been working on some ideas, like printing notepads
and tiny pouches. This one is a birthday gift for a lovely friend but there are more on the way.

There are also some new designs in the copper on denim collection and I've been
accommodating to the smaller sizing with a mini version of my Oasis block.

Still working on these but hopefully they'll be in the shop soon. What have you been up to?

Mini break :)

I've just returned from a quick little holiday to Sydney. It was raining and we had to negotiate
with the wants of two teenage daughters but I did manage to visit my favourite favouritest
Sydney destination, The Museum of Contemporary Art :) Love this place...

Sorry for the lack of attributions (and of course the dodgy photography!). Just wanted to post
a visual postcard of what I saw :)

Hope it's been a good week for you too.
